‘Tu hakla kyu raha hai?’: Saif Ali Khan recalls working with late Yash Chopra in his debut film |
Saif ALi Khan, who made his big Bollywood debut with Yash Chopra‘s Parampara in 1993, recently recalled a hilarious incident with the director from the shoot.
First scene mishap
On Kajol and Twinkle Khanna‘s talk sho, Two Much, Saif shared, “Yash Ji Rest in Peace. He is a great director, but he has worked with big stars who are very capable actors. So after a long time, he got a newcomer. So he said to me, ‘This is your introduction scene. I want you to come inside and be loud and happy and your friends are having coffee in the shop. You come in your name is Pratap and say the dialogue P..P..P Pratap has landed’ so I said okay.”Elaborating further, he added, “When he (Yash Chopra) called action, I came to the mark and said ‘P..P…P..Pratap has landed.’ Listening to this, the director called cut and said, ‘tu hakla kyu raha hai (Why are you stammering).”“So that was my first shot. I thought that’s what he wanted me to do. He said Just do what I am doing and this is what we have to do,” Saif concluded.
Saif recalls stabbing incident at home
In the same episode, Saif also spoke about his stabbing incident. “Kareena had been out, and I had just finished watching a movie with the boys (Taimur and Jeh). So, we went to sleep quite late, around two in the morning. After Kareena returned, we had a small chat before we turned in. Then, the maid came in and she said, ‘Jeh baba ke kamre mein koi hai. Uske haath mein chaaku hai aur bol rahe hai usko paisa chahiye (There’s someone in Jeh’s room. He has a knife in his hand, and he says he wants money),” he recalled.
Aftermath and safety of his family
He added, “I kind of heard that and rolled out of bed. I barged into Jeh’s room in the dark, and I saw this guy standing over his bed with a knife.” Akshay Kumar asked if the intruder was pointing his knife at Jeh, Saif revealed that since the man was moving around too much, both Jeh and his nanny had cut marks. Saif added, “I thought he was smaller than me, which means he’s not very large.And I jumped on him. Jeh later told me, ‘It was a big mistake. You should have punched or kicked him instead.’ But I jumped and we started this fight. He went mad. He had two knives, and he started slashing all over me.”Saif said that Jeh’s nanny Geeta saved his life that night. “I tried to remember my training and blocked a couple of them. But then I felt a thump in my back that was really hard. By then, everyone was out of their rooms. Geeta, our domestic help, aided me in this struggle and pushed the guy off me. She saved my life at that point because he had cut me everywhere. Then we locked him in a room.”The actor said that they thought they had locked him in the room, however, he ran off by then from the way he had had entered the building. That’s when Saif said, he decided to rush to the hospital in the auto and Kareena went to Karisma Kapoor‘s house with the children so that they are safe. However, Taimur insisted that he goes to the hospital with his father. “I was also feeling at peace looking at Tim,” said Saif.
