Akshay Kumar, Twinkle Khanna's son Aarav secretly recorded a video when Shefali Shah was crying for not getting good roles: 'She has a sobbing tape'

Shefali Shah’s path in Bollywood has been anything but straightforward. Though she earned critical acclaim for her roles in Monsoon Wedding and Waqt, widespread recognition in Hindi cinema eluded her for years. It wasn’t until Delhi Crime came her way that things took a transformative turn, marking a defining chapter in her career. In a recent chat with Twinkle Khanna on her YouTube channel Tweak India, the two long-time friends revisited a deeply personal memory. Twinkle recalled, “Shefali is also an old friend and at one point, we were sitting in my garden and she was upset that she wasn’t getting the kind of work she should be getting. She was crying. But since every story has to have some sort of twist, we heard a rustle in the bushes and it turned out to be my son, who was holding a video tape, recording this whole thing. So some people have a sex tape floating around… she has a sobbing tape.” To which Shefali playfully responded, “Maybe we should put it out now, I will get popular.”At the beginning of her career, Shefali found herself typecast in maternal roles—playing Akshay Kumar’s mother in Waqt despite being younger than him, and later stepping into a similar role in Dil Dhadakne Do. But after that, she decided it was time to draw a line.“After Dil Dhadakne Do, I made a strategic decision that I don’t want to play mother to people who are just a couple of years younger than me,” she explained. “After Dil Dhadakne Do, I was offered Neerja and Kapoor and Sons and I loved the script of both the films, but I felt that if I do this this is going to be the end for me. There has been probably more waiting than acting in my career. And while I was waiting Mukesh Chhabra, the casting director, called me and he came up with this part (Delhi Crime) and within first five minutes of meeting Richie Mehta (director of Delhi Crime), I said yes to the show.
