JAIPUR: Relatives of the victims of the fire incident at the ICU of the Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Hospital in Jaipur protested against the hospital administration and the State government, alleging negligence by hospital staff. At least eight patients lost their lives in the tragic incident, and people gathered outside the hospital, sloganeering against the administration and the BJP-led state government.“Our FSL team’s investigation will reveal the cause of the fire. At first glance, it appears to be a short circuit, but the final cause will only be determined after the FSL investigation. The bodies of the deceased have been shifted to the mortuary and will be sent for post-mortem. The remaining patients have been shifted to another ward and are under treatment,” Jaipur police commissioner Biju George Joseph said.Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled the loss of lives, posting on X: “The loss of lives due to a fire tragedy at SMS Hospital is deeply saddening. Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. May the injured recover soon.”Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla expressed deep sorrow over the incident.He called the incident “heart-wrenching” and extended his condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured in the fire.In a post on X on Monday, Om Birla wrote, “The fire at the trauma centre of Sawai Man Singh Hospital in Jaipur, resulting in the death of several patients, is heart-wrenching.”“I express my deepest condolences to the bereaved families. May God grant peace to the departed souls and strength to the grieving families. Prayers for the swift recovery of the injured,” the post stated.Meanwhile, Rajasthan chief minister Bhajanlal Sharma visited SMS Hospital and assured that the injured would receive proper treatment and care. In a post on X, he stated: “The incident of a fire breaking out at the trauma centre of Sawai Man Singh Hospital is extremely unfortunate. Upon reaching the hospital, I gathered information from the doctors and officials and issued instructions to ensure swift relief efforts. Every possible step is being taken for the safety of patients, their treatment, and the care of those affected, and the situation is being continuously monitored.”Mourning the demise of the people killed, CM Sharma added: “May Lord Shri Ram grant place at his divine feet to the departed souls. The state government stands with the affected families and is committed to providing them every possible assistance.”Deputy CM Prem Chand Bairwa, who accompanied the chief minister to the hospital, expressed condolences to the bereaved families and reviewed the relief and rescue operations with the hospital administration. In an X post, he wrote: “The incident of a fire breaking out late tonight at the trauma centre of Sawai Man Singh Hospital in Jaipur is extremely heartbreaking. I assessed the situation, reviewed the relief and rescue operations with the hospital administration and doctors, and met with the patients admitted in the hospital and their families to inquire about their well-being. Every possible step is being taken for the safety of the patients, their treatment, and the care of those affected.“Former Rajasthan chief minister and Congress leader Ashok Gehlot demanded a high-level investigation into the incident. Posting on X, he said: “The fire in the ICU of the trauma centre at SMS Hospital, resulting in the death eight people, is extremely heartbreaking. The state government should conduct a high-level investigation into this incident to ensure that such accidents do not recur anywhere in the future.”The Rajasthan government has constituted a six-member committee to investigate the incident.(With agency inputs)
