Ishaan Khatter recalls literally being on cloud nine when he learned ‘Homebound’ was India’s official entry to the Oscars | Hindi Movie News

Ishaan Khatter was literally “on cloud nine” when he received the news about his latest film Homebound being selected as India’s official entry to the Oscars this year. The actor revealed that he was on a flight back from New York when the announcement came through.“I was in an airplane and I had Wi-Fi on the flight, which kept coming and going. And then for one-two hours, there was a lapse of Wi-Fi. And finally, when the connectivity came back, my phone started blowing up and I started getting all these calls from random people,” Ishaan recalled in an exclusive conversation with ETimes.
The actor said he was taken aback by the flurry of calls, including from the director of the film Neeraj Ghaywan, who had a rather unique way of breaking the news to him. “Neeraj for the first time in two years was giving me galleys( cussing me). I told him I was on a flight and what has happened and that’s when I realized that we’ve finally made the entry.”Khatter, who had flown with the team of Homebound to the Toronto International Film Festival, had then had a stayover in New York for some work and it was on his return trip that he got to know about the Oscar selection. “It was when I was coming back from New York after the Toronto Film Festival and doing some work and meetings in New York. I realized that I was coming back for the release, that was a big victory for us as the film was finally hitting the theaters and we have received our censor certificate . So the last thing on my mind was the Oscar selection. In fact , none of us were expecting the announcement , it came as a surprise. So, I was literally on cloud nine when it happened.”Homebound is backed by Karan Johar and also features Vishal Jethwa and Janhvi Kapoor is based on Basharat Peer’s column from The New York Times.
