Police sub-inspector arrested in Indore for bribery

INDORE: In a significant anti-corruption operation, the Lokayukta unit in Indore arrested Police Sub-Inspector Dharmendra Rajput (46) of Azad Nagar Police Station for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 1 lakh.The action was taken following strict directives from Lokayukta Director General Yogesh Deshmukh to crack down on corruption, an official press release reads.The complainant, Santosh Kumar Tomar (35), manager of Ex-Captain Security Service, stated that Rajput threatened to falsely implicate him or his father, Ramchandra Singh Tomar (owner of the security company), in a murder case (FIR No. 504/2025) and demanded a bribe. When the money was not paid, Tomar’s father was indeed named as an accused in the case.After Tomar’s father secured anticipatory bail, Rajput allegedly summoned Santosh to the police station and demanded Rs 1.5 lakh. This amount was demanded in exchange for not taking further harsh action in the case and for assisting his father.Tomar then filed a complaint with Rajesh Sahay, Superintendent of Police, Lokayukta Office, Indore. After verification confirmed the complaint’s authenticity, a trap team was formed on Monday. Sub-Inspector Dharmendra Rajput was caught red-handed accepting Rs 1 lakh as a bribe from the applicant.Rajput has been booked under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018, and further action is underway.
