17 months on, murder case filed in Bhojpuri actor’s death | Patna News

Bhagalpur: Nearly 17 months after the death of 30-year-old Bhojpuri actor Amrita Pandey, alias Annapurna, the Jogsar police have registered a murder case against unidentified persons following the submission of her postmortem report. Amrita allegedly died by suicide at her residence under Jogsar police station on April 27 last year.With the fresh FIR, police have begun a thorough investigation, which will include re-examining close family members and retrieving the call records and WhatsApp messages of the deceased actor.Amrita, who married Chandramani Jangde of Bilaspur (Chhattisgarh) in 2022, was found hanging from the ceiling fan in her flat on April 27, 2024. She had worked in Bhojpuri films, advertisements and animation projects. Although based in Mumbai, she had travelled to Bhagalpur in April 2024 to attend her sister’s wedding. While her husband returned to Mumbai after the ceremony, Amrita chose to stay back, sources said.Following her death, her family members told police that Amrita had been under stress for a long time due to several reasons, including her declining career. Investigators at the time were also shown a WhatsApp message in which she described her struggles.After the incident, Jogsar police registered a case (no. 03/24) of unnatural death (UD). Then SSP Anand Kumar had formed a team to probe the matter.K N K Singh, SHO of Jogsar police station, said on Sunday that after the submission of the postmortem report and re-examination of the incident, a murder case was registered at the police station on Saturday. The report indicated death by asphyxiation with strangulation marks around Amrita’s neck, he said, adding that police will now question family members, the informant and others close to the actor.
