Security agencies not registered with govt will be shut down: CM Sawant

Panaji: In a move aimed at preventing law and order situations such as gang wars, chief minister Pramod Sawant said on Friday that security agencies not registered with the home department would be shut down.His statement, delivered during his Independence Day address, came three days after a fight between two gangs at Mungul, Fatorda, on Tuesday, which left two persons injured. Goa police arrested several persons in connection with an alleged attempt to murder. The CM said his govt is committed to maintaining law and order in Goa.Sawant also said govt will not allow illegal construction of houses on govt and comunidade land.The CM called for the public to have a partnership with govt with regards to innovation, involvement, and investment. “We want the public to innovate, involve themselves with govt, and invest in the state,” he said.The chief minister also said that state govt is committed to providing efficient and doorstep govt. Govt will construct a unity mall in Goa to provide locals with a place to sell their products, he added. Also, he said that a Kunbi village at Sanguem would be completed within the next three months, and it will provide an opportunity for local artisans to exhibit their products.The CM also said that govt would soon lay the foundation stone for the Shivaji Maharaj digital museum, which could boost tourism. He also said that various development projects have been initiated by govt, including a convention centre.Sawant said that under the flagship initiative ‘Majhe Ghar’, state govt has undertaken several “bold, compassionate, and people-centric” reforms to ensure every Goan family can claim this fundamental right which they were deprived of for the last 60 years. He said that govt has made reforms so that the public is not harassed and can get easy approvals from govt bodies to construct and repair their houses.He also urged people not to politicise the regularisation of houses on comunidade land and said everyone has a right to regularise their house. Sawant said that govt does not want to send a signal to the public who have constructed legal houses that govt is providing free houses to those constructed irregularly.“Govt is committed to not allow illegal houses henceforth on govt and comunidade land,” he said.Sawant said that his govt is committed to resolving the issues of the public. He also thanked PM Narendra Modi for passing the Readjustment of Representation of Scheduled Tribes in Goa Assembly Constituencies Bill, 2025, to reserve four assembly constituencies for the ST community in the next assembly election.
