Emerging dancers showcase powerful performances at an annual dance event in Kolkata | Events Movie News

Dance is a universal language that transcends cultural boundaries and tells stories that words often cannot, making it a powerful medium for connection and self-expression. Finding Ground embraces this essence by bringing together a mix of emerging dancers from across India, offering a platform to explore and celebrate the art form’s diverse expressions. Organised by Artsforward, the second edition featured captivating performances of participants across the country including Bharatnatyam exponent Geeta Chandran, Diya Naidu, and Turna Das.

Sanjam Hemjit
Day 1 saw Seher Noor Mehra from Bangalore and Senjam Hemjit from Imphal delivered powerful performances exploring themes of home, belonging, and cultural identity. Senjam’s piece explored the complex connection between Earth and the cosmos, whereas, Seher’s piece delved into themes of ancestral longing and the desire to reconnect. The work expressed a deep search for belonging and rooted identity, drawing inspiration from Sufism and Punjabi traditions, and was shaped by mysticism and resilience. “This edition of Finding Ground brought together a diverse jury and showcased talented artistes like Seher Noor and Senjam Hemjit, continuing our mission to support emerging voices in dance and theatre,” said, Paramita Saha, co-founder-director, Artsforward.

Day 2 highlighted a collaboration with the Prakriti Foundation, showcasing past Prakriti Excellence Award winners Aseng Borang and Pradeep Gupta. Their performances pushed the boundaries of contemporary dance, blending unique narratives that challenged conventional norms. “Finding Ground is a space for young artistes to share their work, voice their concerns, and nurture our dance ecologies for the future,” said Vikram Iyengar, founder-director, Pickle Factory Dance Foundation.
