Ranveer Allahbadia & co. face FIR and Supreme Court heat after ex-WWE star’s threat over ‘India’s Got Latent’ row | WWE News

The Maharashtra Cyber Cell has registered an FIR against all individuals involved in the YouTube show India’s Got Latent, hosted by comedian Samay Raina. The action follows widespread backlash over offensive remarks made by podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia during a recent episode.
Yashasvi Yadav, Inspector General of Maharashtra Cyber Cell, told ANI, “FIR has been registered against all members who played roles in all episodes of the show. Authorities had ordered the removal of all videos under investigation and mandated the deactivation of the show’s account until the inquiry concludes. Cyber officials initially took down the first controversial video and later directed comedian Samay Raina to remove all content related to the case.”
So far, 42 individuals, including artists, producers, and influencers, have been summoned for questioning. Among those named are Samay Raina, Apoorva Mukhija, and Ranveer Allahbadia. Statements from comedian Devesh Dixit and former Roadies anchor Raghu Ram have also been recorded.

Ranveer Allahbadia faces Supreme Court scrutiny and travel restrictions

On Monday, the Maharashtra Cyber Unit summoned Ranveer Allahbadia to record his statement on February 24. The Supreme Court granted Allahbadia interim protection from arrest but issued harsh criticism over his remarks.
A Bench of Justices Surya Kant and N.K. Singh ruled that no new criminal cases should be registered against Allahbadia based on his comments. The court directed him to submit his passport at the Thane Police Station and warned that his protection from arrest would depend on his cooperation with the investigation.
Justice Surya Kant lambasted Allahbadia’s conduct, stating, “You threw up something very dirty in your mind during the programme… swayed by your popularity, you think you can resort to all kinds of vulgarity and exhibit a depraved mind anywhere, anytime.”
The court ordered Allahbadia to stop participating in shows, with Justice Kant telling his lawyer, “Stop this show business for the time being.”

Ex-WWE star Saurav Gurjar threatens Ranveer Allahbadia over his remarks

Former WWE wrestler Saurav Gurjar, also known as Sanga, posted a video on X condemning Allahbadia’s comments and calling for strict action. Addressing Allahbadia, he warned, “If I meet him anywhere, no one can save him from me for what he said on the show.”
Gurjar tagged officials, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, and the Maharashtra DGP, urging them to act. He stated, “If we do not take action against him, more people like him will cross all limits. We must take legal action to protect our society and future generations.”

Ranveer Allahbadia and Samay Raina respond to backlash

Following the controversy, Samay Raina addressed the issue on Instagram Stories, stating:
“Everything that has been happening has been too much for me to handle. I have removed all India’s Got Latent videos from my channel. My only objective was to make people laugh and have a good time. I will fully cooperate with all agencies to ensure their inquiries are concluded fairly. Thank you.”
Ranveer Allahbadia also issued an apology via a video on X:
“My comment wasn’t just inappropriate, it wasn’t even funny. Comedy is not my forte, I am just here to say sorry.”
He admitted that his remarks lacked humor and were insensitive. Addressing concerns over his influence on younger audiences, he added, “Family is the last thing that I would ever disrespect.”
Adding to the backlash, cricketer Virat Kohli unfollowed Allahbadia on Instagram after the remarks went viral. Meanwhile, Maharashtra Cultural Affairs Minister Ashish Shelar ordered an investigation into shows promoting obscenity, including a Marathi show called Kandepohe, which faced similar complaints.
Shelar emphasized that any ticketed events promoting obscene content without approval from the Theatre Inspection Board would face strict action.

Multiple FIRs and security concerns for Ranveer Allahbadia

Ranveer Allahbadia’s lawyer, Abhinav Chandrachud, informed the Supreme Court that multiple FIRs had been filed against his client across Thane, Gauhati, and Jaipur. Chandrachud argued that the FIRs were an abuse of the legal process, referencing the Supreme Court’s rulings in the TT Anthony and Arnab Goswami cases, which prohibit multiple FIRs for the same incident.
Chandrachud stated that Allahbadia was facing death threats and acid attack warnings. He also reported that Allahbadia’s mother, a doctor, had been threatened at her clinic.
Despite these concerns, Justice Kant clarified that relief would not be granted simply because the accused was influential. “The law must take its course,” he said.
