Vijay Deverakonda’s Kingdom mints over Rs 1 crore in advance booking for premiere shows in North America; Stakes high after spate of flops | Telugu Movie News
Vijay Deverakonda’s much-anticipated action drama Kingdom is showing promising signs at the North American box office even before its theatrical debut. With five days to go for premieres, the film has already grossed over US $135,500 from 220 locations and has sold more than 7000 tickets just in the United States of America alone. The total premiere advance sales across North America currently stand at US $ 145,000 ( Rs 1.25 crore) , with more locations and shows expected to open soon.Over the past few years Telugu Cinema has made the North America circuit as one of it’s strongholds thanks to films like Baahubali series, Kalki 2898 AD, Pushpa franchise , RRR and Salaar: Part 1- Ceasefire . This has been possible thanks to growing Telugu speaking population in the USA, in fact Telugu has become the 11th most spoken language in the country. This early traction signals a positive start for Kingdom, which could prove crucial for Vijay Deverakonda’s career trajectory after a series of underwhelming performances at the box office. His last few films—including the pan-India venture Liger, romantic drama Khushi, and The Family Star—failed to connect with audiences and critics alike. Kingdom, therefore, is being viewed as a very important project for the actor, who once enjoyed massive youth appeal following hits like Arjun Reddy and Geetha Govindam.Trade analysts are optimistic that Kingdom could cross the $500K mark in premiere sales by the time the first show begins. For the film Vijay has roped in big names to the film a huge push, the voiceover in Hindi has been done by Ranbir Kapoor, while in Telugu it is by Jr.NTR and in Tamil it is done by Suriya. The film has been directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri who is known for making heart wrenching films like Jersey with Nani.
