How to Start a Heist in GTA Online

GTA Online’s heists are some of the best ways to make money and experience thrilling missions with friends. But before jumping into the action, you need to know how to start a heist properly. Whether you want to host your own heist or join another player’s, this guide has you covered.

Requirements to Start a Heist

Before you can begin robbing banks and pulling off high-stakes missions, you’ll need to meet these requirements:

  1. Reach Rank 12 – You must be at least Rank 12 in GTA Online.
  2. Own a High-End Apartment – Classic heists like The Fleeca Job require a high-end apartment with a planning room. The cheapest option costs around $200,000.
  3. Receive a Call from Lester – After meeting the requirements, Lester Crest will call you and introduce the Heist system.

Note: If you want to start advanced heists (Doomsday Heist, Diamond Casino Heist, or Cayo Perico Heist), you’ll need special properties like a Facility, Arcade, or Kosatka Submarine instead of an apartment.

How to Start a Heist as a Leader

Once you’re ready, follow these steps to launch your own heist:

Step 1: Accept Lester’s Invitation

After receiving Lester’s call, accept his invitation to start a heist. This will take you to the heist planning room in your apartment.

Step 2: Assemble Your Crew

  • As the leader, you can invite friends or matchmake with random players.
  • Some heists require two players (Fleeca Job), while others need four players (Pacific Standard Job).

Step 3: Plan the Heist

  • Inside your planning room, you’ll see a whiteboard outlining the setup missions and final heist.
  • Assign roles, weapons, and vehicles based on the mission.

Setup Missions: The Key to a Successful Heist

Before jumping into the final score, you need to complete setup missions:

  • Each heist has 2-5 setup missions that gather necessary gear, weapons, or vehicles.
  • The leader doesn’t earn money from setup missions but gains RP (Reputation Points).
  • If you’re playing Diamond Casino Heist or Cayo Perico Heist, you can choose different approaches (Stealth, Aggressive, or Big Con).

Executing the Final Heist

  • Once all setup missions are done, the final heist mission unlocks.
  • The leader chooses the payout split—they can take 40% or more, depending on their team.
  • Communication is key! A well-planned heist with coordinated teamwork ensures a smooth getaway and maximum profit.

How to Join Another Player’s Heist

If you don’t own a high-end apartment or want to skip being the leader, you can join someone else’s heist:

  • Open your phone > Quick Job > Join Heist to find available missions.
  • Accept heist invites from friends or random players.
  • You’ll earn a share of the heist payout without spending your own money upfront.

Replaying Heists

  • After completing a heist, you can replay it by calling Lester.
  • Some heists (Cayo Perico, Diamond Casino) have cooldowns, so you’ll need to wait before starting again.

Heists are one of the best money-making methods in GTA Online, and now you know exactly how to start one. Whether you’re leading the operation or joining someone else’s crew, mastering heists is the key to making millions in Los Santos.
Now, grab your crew, plan your approach, and start stealing some big bucks!
