Poultry truck overturns on UP e-way, villagers scramble to grab chickens

A mad scramble for chickens ensued after a pickup truck transporting poultry from Amethi to Firozabad overturned in Kannauj on the Lucknow-Agra Expressway on Saturday.
The incident occurred when the truck, carrying a large load of chickens, veered off the road and crashed, spilling its contents onto the highway. As the truck overturned, locals from nearby villages who had witnessed the crash rushed to the scene in a frenzy, eager to grab as many chickens as they could.
In the midst of the chaos, the injured driver and cleaner of the truck were left to fend for themselves, as the crowd paid little attention to their distress. The scene was one of complete pandemonium, with people jostling for the poultry, seemingly oblivious to the plight of the truck’s occupants.
Onlookers, shocked by the event, quickly began capturing the chaotic scene on camera. The footage of the mad scramble for chickens soon went viral on social media platforms, where it sparked intense debates about crowd behavior and ethics.
Many people expressed outrage at the lack of empathy shown by the villagers, while others questioned the morality of taking the poultry that was clearly part of an accident.
The situation raised concerns about the safety and responsibility of individuals in such chaotic moments, and the role of authorities in preventing such lawless behavior. The viral nature of the clip drew widespread attention, prompting the authorities to act swiftly.
Order was restored only after the intervention of the police and officials from the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA). The authorities arrived at the site, and their presence caused the locals to flee in panic, putting an end to the scene of looting. The driver and cleaner, who had sustained injuries in the accident, were eventually admitted to a hospital in Kannauj for medical treatment. Their condition was reported to be stable.
Following the viral incident, officials launched an investigation into the matter. Additional SP Ajay Kumar confirmed that the accident occurred because the driver had fallen asleep while driving, which led to him losing control of the truck and crashing into the divider.
The police have since initiated action to identify those responsible for taking the chickens from the site. Kumar emphasized that strict action would be taken against those who had taken part in the looting, as the authorities were determined to uphold the law and prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.
