Bonpulak hosts three seas ensemble, Nachni performers in Purulia | Bengali Movie News

On January 3rd, Bonpulak, a cultural space in Nilkantha Woods near Purulia town, hosted a musical evening featuring the Three Seas Ensemble and Nachni performer Posto Bala Devi. The event, organised by the Ranjit Jharna Kanshai Eco Foundation, focused on cultural exchange and preservation.
The Three Seas Ensemble, an Australian-Indian collaboration led by Australian saxophonist Matt Keegan, performed as part of their Voyager Tour. The group included drummer Gaurab Chatterjee, Baul singer Raju Das Baul, and multi-instrumentalist Deo Ashish Mothey, with guest musicians Hilary Geddes on guitar and Brendan Clark on bass. Their set combined Bengali folk rhythms with Australian jazz influences.
Posto Bala Devi, known for her work in Nachni—a dance form historically marginalised—delivered a performance highlighting its cultural significance. An impromptu collaboration between the musicians and the dancer closed the evening. The event was part of the foundation’s efforts to support marginalised communities in Purulia through culture-based initiatives.
