Parts of Nilgiris receive heavy rain; TNDRF teams stationed in three places
A team each from the Tamil Nadu Disaster Response Force has been stationed in Pandalur, Gudalur and Kundha taluks.

UDHAGAMANDALAM: Nilgiris district collector Lakshmi Bhavya Tanneeru has activated disaster management measures in Pandalur, Gudalur and Kundha taluks in the wake of a rain red alert issued by the India Meteorological Department for the Nilgiris over the weekend.A team each from the Tamil Nadu Disaster Response Force (TNDRF) has been stationed in Pandalur, Gudalur and Kundha taluks. Each team comprises 21 members.During the 24 hours ending at 7am on Saturday, Pandalur recorded 72 mm of rain, followed by Avalanche with 68 mm, Upper Bhavani with 47 mm, Devala with 55 mm, Cherangode with 56 mm and Gudalur with 36 mm. Ooty experienced 3.8 mm of rain. While Kundha, Pandalur and Gudalur taluks received significant rainfall, the other taluks, including Ooty, experienced moderate rain. On Saturday, Pandalur and Gudalur saw showers while a few other areas received light rain.Suresh Kannan, the district backward class officer, has been designated as the monitoring officer for Pandalur taluk to address rain-related issues. He and other revenue officials inspected the water flow in the Ponneri river and confirmed that the flow was normal.A special deputy collector responsible for social security schemes has been assigned as the monitoring officer for Gudalur taluk. He inspected the water level of the Punnampuzha river at Irumbupalam in Gudalur.Sathish Kumar, the personal assistant (general) to the collector, has been appointed as the monitoring officer for Kundha taluk. He inspected vulnerable areas, including J J Nagar, Indra Nagar, and Kamaraj Nagar in Kinnakorai village.Additional collector H R Kaushik assessed the Balacola flood relief centre in Kundha taluk.
