PUSU to set up help desks in colleges for students seeking admissions

Patna: The Patna University Students Union (PUSU) will set up help desks in different colleges this year to help and guide students seeking admission to the undergraduate courses in 2025- 26 session. These help desks would be set up at prominent places near entrance gates at the time of admission, said PUSU president Maithili Mrinalini.The PU is set to release the first merit list of candidates selected for admission to both the conventional four-year degree programmes as well as the three-year self-financing (vocational) courses of the university on June 11. And, the admission of students in all the constituent colleges, including Patna College, Patna Science College, B N College, Magadh Mahila College and Vanijya Mahavidyalaya will be held from June 13 to 16. UG admissions in Patna Women’s College, another constituent unit of PU, have already been completed, she said.Mrinalini said, “Union councillors will remain active in their respective colleges well before the commencement of admission and guide the new aspirants in all admission-related works. And, on the days of admission, help desk will be set up in every college where union leaders from the central panel will provide them with necessary information regarding number of seats, courses, major and minor subjects, fee structure and cutoff marks,” she said.

She further pointed out that many boys and girls coming from rural areas were not well versed in completing the admission formalities online, hence they need help and guidance from the seniors. The union volunteers at the help desk would provide all necessary help to such students.She said the union would also release helpline numbers soon so that students may also get admission-related information on phone. The UGC had already directed the universities and colleges to release helpline numbers during admissions which should remain functional 24×7, replying to the queries from admission seekers and their guardians.PU students’ welfare dean Anil Kumar said that after securing admission in a college students would have to get their major and minor subjects registered in the PU admission portal well before the induction meet. While applying for admission, a student would have to indicate at least three choices of subjects and institutions offered by him or her.More than 10,000 applications have been received for admission in PU colleges. There are altogether 4531 sanctioned seats in different streams, including 1136 in Magadh Mahila College, 1130 in B N College, 750 in Patna Science College, 930 in Patna College, and 585 in Vanijya Mahavidyalaya, he said.
