Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex is known for her friendly yet assertive personality across the globe. The 43-year-old has been very active recently, with the launch of her lifestyle brand ‘As Ever’ and Netflix show ‘With Love, Meghan.‘ While over the years Markle has tried to establish her persona as one that is highly friendly and understanding, various sources have revealed how authoritative and demanding she behaves off the camera.According to a recent report by The Daily Mail, the alleged rift between Meghan Markle and former British Vogue editor Edward Enninful went deeper than the latter being unable to accommodate her for the cover in 2022.The former royal presented the fashion wizard with an “impossible” list of demands and even tried to appeal to US Vogue’s Anna Wintour, as per what a source told Page Six.Initially, Markle and Enninful had plans for a UK Vogue September 2022 issue that would mention Markle’s keynote appearance at the One Young World Summit in Manchester, and “involved extensive features across the magazine and its digital editions.”But, Markle wanted more. She wanted to be on the cover for which Enninful already had a star, Linda Evangelista, booked. This was led to be the reason why Meghan pulled back from the feature and also from her friendship with the Vogue editor.

Now, some new reasons why Meghan’s 2022 Vogue cover didn’t happen have come to light. According to what a source told Page Six, Markle wanted a “global cover” where she appeared on the covers of the UK and US Vogue. Additionally, she had a list of many other demands.“Meghan asked for control over [the] photographer, writer, final edit, photos, cover lines, and wanted a global issue,” said the source.“Nobody gets that. Not even Beyoncé,” they added. It seems Markle’s efforts to be the cover star of Vogue didn’t end so easily. She even set up a personal Zoom call with Anna Wintour to pitch her the idea.“Anna wasn’t interested,” said the source, adding that the US magazine also had a cover star already, none other than Serena Williams.“Meghan asked for a Zoom with her to reconsider, and Anna did it to be polite,” explained the source. Now, sources report that Markle and Enninful are no longer on speaking terms.“The duchess and her team had high expectations and were expecting she might get a print cover or at least a digital cover out of it, but Enninful was not able to meet those expectations. He already had a magazine cover in the bag for that month,” an insider said.“Edward was furious to have lost the project, as were the powers that be at Condé Nast,” said the source.“The whole process became very difficult. Edward could only promise her a big showy feature inside the magazine and online — but she turned it down,” they added.
