2 nabbed for taking bribe from sweeper in Gurgaon | Gurgaon News

Gurgaon: Two men were arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau after they were caught taking a bribe from a sanitation staffer, who was recently employed at a school in the city and was asked to pay up for an ID card that would allow him to get his salary. The sanitation staffer approached ACB-Gurgaon earlier this month. He told ACB officials that he was hired as a sweeper at the Govt Model Sanskriti Primary School in Chakkarpur through Haryana Kaushal Rozgar Nigam (HKRN), an agency that manages and allots contractual jobs for govt staffers, this April. He said that a supervisor Ravindra initially came to get his identity and bank documents to make an ID card, which was necessary to get his monthly salary. The staffer said he provided all the documents, but did not get his salary at the end of April. In May, the staffer said he was on leave for three days, when he got a call from another man, Anil Kumar – a field officer – who said his ID card can only be made after he makes an additional payment.Anil allegedly told the staffer on May 7 that he had spoken to an “HR official” – Saini – who also said the ID card cannot be issued without some expenses. The staffer said that Saini spoke to him over the phone and asked him to pay Rs 70,000- Rs 80,000. When the staffer told him he did not have such an amount, Saini told him to pay Rs 50,000 up front, and the remaining amount after he gets his salaries. Anil on May 8 told the staffer to hand over money to Shivram, another “supervisor”. After the complaint, ACB set up a trap and told the staffer to agree to handing over the amount on May 13.Shivram was caught receiving the bribe at the school, and Anil was arrested soon after, an ACB official said. The third accused, Saini, is on the run.“A case was registered against the accused under the Prevention of Corruption Act. Another person named Saini is still absconding. The arrested accused were presented in a court on Thursday and sent to two-day police remand,” the official said.HKRN was established in 2021 and facilitates employment for various govt departments, boards, universities and schools in the state. The agency was formed to centralise the employment process and eliminate corruption, which was earlier considered to be rampant because each department was responsible for its own hirings.
