When Rana Daggubati shared his regret over doing the Tamil remake of Dulquer Salmaan's 'Bangalore Days': 'The film performed terribly at the box office'

Even after a decade since its release, the Malayalam film ‘Bangalore Days‘ remains a cherished classic among movie enthusiasts. Released in 2014, the film, featuring a stellar ensemble cast including Dulquer Salmaan, Nivin Pauly, Fahadh Faasil, Nazriya Nazim, and Parvathy Thiruvothu, became an instant sensation. The film was remade in Tamil as ‘Bangalore Naatkal‘. But the remake did not achieve the same level of acclaim.
In a 2020 interview with IANS, renowned actor Rana Daggubati reflected on the decision to remake the film and admitted that it was not the best move.

Rana Daggubati’s fans concern over the actor’s career

Sharing his thoughts on the remake, Rana said, “I was part of the Tamil remake of Bangalore Days. The film performed terribly at the box office, and I wish we hadn’t remade such a beautiful film.”
He also revealed that his primary motivation for being part of the remake was his eagerness to portray the role originally played by Fahadh Faasil.
‘Bangalore Naatkal’ featured actors such as Arya, Bobby Simha, Sri Divya, and Prakash Raj in pivotal roles. Arya stepped into Dulquer’s shoes, while Bobby Simha and Rana Daggubati took on the characters originally played by Nivin Pauly and Fahadh Faasil. Sri Divya reprised Nazriya’s role, while Parvathy Thiruvothu retained her character from the Malayalam version. The film also included Samantha Ruth Prabhu in a guest appearance.
Despite staying true to the storyline of ‘Bangalore Days’, the Tamil remake failed to resonate with audiences. Viewers felt that ‘Bangalore Naatkal’ lacked the emotional depth and strong camaraderie that made the original so impactful.

Directed by Bommarilu Bhaskar, the film’s commercial failure marked a difficult phase for Bhaskar, who took over five years to make a successful comeback with Most Eligible Bachelor, starring Akhil Akkineni and Pooja Hegde. Gopi Sundar composed the music for the film.
Meanwhile, the Malayalam movie ‘Bangalore Days’ is currently available for streaming on Disney+ Hotstar.
