Tragic Fire in Jharkhand’s Giridih Claims Lives of Mother and Daughter | Ranchi News

BOKARO: At least 2 people died and 4 others were trapped after a fire broke out at a three-storey building in Marwari Mohalla, Pachamba, Giridih, early Monday morning.
The victims included a mother and her daughter who lived in the building that also housed the Khushi Mart clothing store.
The blaze erupted after midnight and rapidly spread through all floors, fuelled by flammable clothing materials in the store. Local residents reported that thick smoke and intense heat quickly engulfed the structure, trapping six family members inside.
Following alerts from locals, fire brigade teams and Pachamba police launched a swift rescue operation. Despite challenging conditions, they successfully evacuated four family members. However, the mother’s body was later recovered, while search operations continue for the daughter’s remains amid heavy smoke and debris.
Sub-divisional officer Shrikant Vispute (IAS), who supervised the operations, confirmed the casualties.
“The fire caused extensive damage to both commercial and residential sections of the building. While we managed to rescue four individuals, unfortunately, two lives were lost,” he said.
Officials have initiated an investigation to determine the cause of the fire, which remains unknown. The district administration is currently providing necessary assistance to the affected family and coordinating relief efforts.
The incident has highlighted concerns about fire safety measures in buildings that combine commercial and residential spaces, particularly those storing flammable materials.
