Took inspiration for the film from school days: Khalid Rahman | Malayalam Movie News

Alappuzha Gymkhana, a sports entertainer about a group of teenage friends finding a goal in life through boxing, is a “diary film”, director Khalid Rahman tells us. The script, which he cowrote with Sreeni Saseendran, with dialogues by Ratheesh Ravi, comes from a diary entry Khalid made when he was in school. “I took inspiration from an incident from my school days, involving my friends and myself, and tried to narrate it with honesty,” says the director.
The actors, who went through months of gym workouts and boxing training, have been much appreciated for their body transformation and their chemistry and camaraderie on screen. Khalid says the cast, including Naslen, Ganapathi and Luk- man Avaran, were roped in based on how they fit the characters, some of them inspired by his friends.

He says that the film, bankrolled by Plan B Motion Pictures, was made with a teenage audience and their parents, particularly mothers, in mind. “From the response of audiences in the theatres, I feel that the film has managed to make a connection with our target audience,” he says.
