This Tamil New Year feels extra special because we are now married: Kalidas & Tarini

This Tamil New Year/Vishu is extremely special for Kalidas Jayaram and Tarini Kalingarayar as it’s their first as a married couple. In a chat with Chennai Times, the couple, who tied the knot in December last year, shares, “Even though we have celebrated this occasion before, this year feels extra special because we are now married. We are looking forward to the whole family coming together, as all of us are busy most of the year due to work.”
‘THE MAIN MOTIVE OF ANY FESTIVAL IS TO BRING EVERYONE TOGETHER’
Even though he is a Malayali, Kalidas tells us that he has always celebrated both Tamil New Year and Vishu every year. He reveals, “Growing up, my dad (actor Jayaram) was very particular in teaching me the importance of our culture. Over the last few years, Tarini has also started to celebrate both festivals with me.”
Tarini, too, delves into the importance of celebrating festivals, and says, “The main motive of any festival is to bring everyone together and celebrate it with our families. For us, it’s about spreading love and kindness and not too much about how we go about celebrating a festival.”
‘WE HAVE OUR CHEAT MEALS DURING THE FESTIVE SEASON’
On their New Year plans, they state, “The plan is to have a good sadya and watch any of our favourite films together. Payasam is our favourite because both of us are huge sweet tooths.” Such occasions are also when they have their cheat meals. “We both usually try to eat as healthy as possible, but we have our cheat meals during the festive season. We go all out because we are both big foodies,” shares Tarini.
Kalidas states that the best Tamil New Year/ Vishu celebration they’ve had till now was last year. “It was our best celebration yet because that was right before my sister, Malavika, got married to my brother-in-law, Navaneeth. So, we had all our extended families here in Chennai at our place.”
‘TARINI HAS BEEN MY BEST FRIEND EVER SINCE I MET HER, AND IT’S STILL THE SAME’
So, what about their New Year wish? “We want to take nothing for granted and lead a peaceful and loving life,” says Tarini, adding, “Our only wish is that things stay the same. Both of us are grateful and happy with how things have been going, especially in the last few years!”
Kalidas also agrees that nothing has changed between them post marriage. “She has been my best friend ever since I met her, and it’s still the same,” says the actor.
‘Traditional wear is our pick for festivals’
When it comes to their go-to attire to wear during Puthandu and Vishu, the couple states, “Traditional always and any day!” “Festival or not, I always love to don our traditional clothes,” adds Kalidas.
