‘He’s a joke’: Ryan Rickelton left awestruck by Suryakumar Yadav’s shot – watch video | Cricket News

Suryakumar Yadav, India’s T20I captain, made a quick-fire 27 not out off 9 balls, helping Mumbai Indians secure an eight-wicket victory over Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2025 at Wankhede Stadium on Monday. During his brief but impactful innings, Yadav became the fifth Indian to reach 8,000 T20 runs, joining the elite company of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, and Suresh Raina.
Yadav’s performance came after a relatively quiet period, including the recent five-match T20I series against England in January, where India won 4-1. He had also struggled to make an impact in the previous match against Gujarat Titans.

With Mumbai Indians chasing a modest target of 117, Yadav walked in when only 26 runs were required from 55 balls. He immediately showcased his signature style, starting with a remarkable scoop shot off Andre Russell’s delivery for six over deep fine-leg.
The innovative shot, which combined elements of a flick, scoop, and swipe, set the tone for his brief stay at the crease. He went on to hit three fours and another six to guide his team to victory.
“I just said to Quinny (de Kock) that SKY (Surya) is a joke, stuff that I can’t do, stuff that I can’t dream of. He has played that shot many a time, I’m not going to try it but I’m glad that he is in our team,” said Ryan Rickelton, who remained unbeaten on 62 off 41 balls.
The Kolkata Knight Riders had earlier been dismissed for a mere 116 runs, with the Mumbai Indians bowlers dominating the proceedings. This set up a comfortable chase for the home team in their first match at Wankhede this season.
