Ellen DeGeneres buys USD 27 million California home after move to the UK over Trump election |
Months after Ellen DeGeneres made headlines for her plan to ‘leave America’ after Donald Trump’s reelection, the comedian is seemingly ready to move back home. According to the New York Post, Ellen has reportedly shelled out USD 27 million on a swanky California mansion, more than a year after relocating to the United Kingdom. The star, who has been spotted out and about England’s Cotswolds, has, according to people, decided to divide her time between Montecito, California, and the UK.
Is Ellen moving back to the US
“She’s not moving back to the US but will continue to split her time between both the UK and Montecito,” an insider told the publication.
About Ellen’s move to the UK
DeGeneres publicly announced her move to the UK with her wife, Portia de Rossi, in 2024. At the time, the couple shelled out USD 14 million on a farmhouse in the Cotswolds. The couple even shared photos from their new home and the farm animals on their property. They were also spotted by locals spending casual evenings at the local pubs. Despite earlier remarks suggesting a permanent move to the UK, they are reportedly keen to return to California as they reportedly miss the region’s climate and Portia’s equestrian hobbies including her polo matches.
Hollywood celebs who left the US
DeGeneres publicly confirmed in July 2025 that her decision to move to the UK was influenced by the political climate following Trump’s election. Since her move in 2024, as many as 19 Hollywood actors have announced their plans to live abroad. The most recent names include George Clooney and wife Amal Clooney, who have reportedly shifted base to France. Rosie O’Donnell also opened up about her move to Ireland, citing political reasons, meanwhile, actors Amber Heard and Richard Gere moved to Spain with their families. Singer Janet Jackson and actor Kevin Spacey moved base to London.
