Ever since Eric Dale opened up about his neurodegenerative disease (ALS), support from all sides has been pouring in for him. After Patrick Dempsey, another one of his co-stars from ‘Grey’s Anatomy’, Ellen Pompeo has recently revealed what she told Eric Dane after his diagnosis. Dane and Pompeo starred in the medical drama for six seasons.
What Ellen Pompeo told Eric Dane after his diagnosis
According to PEOPLE, in a pre-taped message at the ALS Network Champions for Cures & Care Gala on January 24, Ellen Pompeo revealed that she texted Eric Dane when she heard about his ALS diagnosis. She said, “As soon as I heard about his diagnosis, I texted him, and I said, ‘I’m here if you want to speak’”She shared, “… and my phone rang 30 seconds later.” It was Eric Dane. Ellen replied, “Whatever you need, however I can help. I love you.”“I’m really proud of you,” she added. “I love you so much, and I am honored to get to speak about you today.”

Ellen played the titular main character Meredith GreyEric, while Eric played Mark “McSteamy” Sloan, one of her colleagues. She remembered how everyone immediately liked Eric Dane. “I remember when he came in as McSteamy and us having instant electric chemistry,” she explained, “and I immediately just fell in love with him.”
Eric Dane’s battle and toll on his work
Ahead of the gala, the ALS Network revealed that Eric, who announced his diagnosis in April, was forced to miss the event, where he was recognized as Advocate of the Year. “The ALS Network has been informed that Eric Dane had hoped to join us this evening to accept his Advocate of the Year Award, but due to the physical realities of ALS, he is not well enough to attend,” the organization said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter ahead of the event.
Patrick Dempsey also keeps in touch with Eric Dane
During the premiere of ‘Memory of a Killer’, Patrick Dempsey gave an update on co-star Eric Dane’s health status amid the ALS battle. In an interview with Parade, Patrick Dempsey shared that “It’s very hard for him(Eric Dane), but I do try to stay in touch and see how he’s doing.”
