‘Biggest leap yet’: Elon Musk’s xAI takes on Google with new version of Grok Imagine, here’s how
Elon Musk’s xAI has issued a direct challenge to Google Veo 3.1 and OpenAI’s Sora – the generative AI video models – by launching Grok Imagine 1.0. Calling it as the platform’s “biggest leap yet,” the update introduces HD video generation and synchronised, cinematic audio. The launch announcement was first made by xAI with Musk confirming its wide release on X (formerly Twitter).“Introducing Grok Imagine 1.0, our biggest leap yet,” it said.“1.0 unlocks 10-second videos, 720p resolution, and dramatically better audio. Imagine has generated 1.245 billion videos in the last 30 days alone. Try it now: http://grok.com/imagine,” the company added. Musk, in a separate post, said: “Grok Imagine version 1.0 is now in wide release.”
What is new in Grok Imagin 1.0
Grok Imagine 1.0 extends previous limitations by allowing users to generate clips up to 10 seconds in length. xAI claims the new version delivers smoother visuals and consistent frame rates at 720p resolution. In a bunch of post, xAI explained the features:
- Experience stories that unfold fully. Sharper detail and smoother motion that draws you deeper into the scene. Videos are now longer and higher resolution.
- We’ve dramatically improved audio. Hear characters speak with emotional and expressive voices. Add immersive music that syncs perfectly to the scene.
- Huge leap in prompt following: Imagine 1.0 understands your vision – even with follow up prompts – and brings it to life.
- Our new model excels at everyday fun too: animate old family photos or photos of pets, make memes and clips about today’s news.
- The Grok Imagine API model tops the Artificial Analysis benchmarks – highlighting the exceptional quality behind the core model powering Imagine 1.0.
