Akhil Sathyan reveals that ‘Sarvam Maya’ is inspired by a real-life incident
Director Akhil Sathyan’s horror-comedy ‘Sarvam Maya,’ starring Nivin Pauly, is now streaming on OTT after a theatrical run. Sathyan revealed a poignant scene, a brother’s farewell to a comatose loved one, was inspired by a real-life family tragedy. The film, a blockbuster, blends commercial elements with relatable, feel-good moments.

Akhil Sathyan’s directorial ‘Sarvam Maya’ has emerged as the talk of the town. After winning the audience in theatres, the film is now streaming on OTT. The Nivin Pauly and Riya Shibu starrer horror comedy is also receiving much attention since its digital release. The director has now revealed that a bit of the film is inspired by ‘real-life events.Talking to OTT play, the director revealed that a real-life scenario inspired the major emotional theme of ‘Savam Maya’, the brother saying goodbye to Delulu, right before the doctors remove her life support. “One of our close family friends experienced a similar situation, and a child was asked to decide on removing the life support of a victim in a coma. It is an unbearable pain. I will never forget that traumatic event, which motivated me to include it as the key emotive idea in Sarvam Maya,” Akhil Sathyan revealed. Starring Nivin Pauly, Riya Shibu, and Aju Varghese in the lead roles, ‘Sarvam Maya’ emerged as a blockbuster. The film hit the theatres worldwide on December 25, and is now streaming on Jio Hotstar. Speaking about the immense success of the film, the director added, “Nivin and I both needed this movie to be successful. Sarvam Maya contains all the commercial elements needed for a family entertainer, including comedy, songs, and—above all—feel-good moments that are relevant to today’s world without being over the top. Additionally, I insisted on using typical situations that sometimes show up as a villain rather than any brutal antagonist in the narrative.” Helmed by Akhil Sathyan, ‘Sarvam Maya’ revolves around Prabhendu, a priest, and an unconventional ghost. The film features Nivin Pauly, Aju Varghese, Riya Shibu, Preity Mukhundhan, and Janardhanan in the lead roles.
