Drew McIntyre walked out of WWE Royal Rumble 2026 still holding the WWE Undisputed Championship after a painful and chaotic fight against Sami Zayn. The title match took place on January 31, 2026, and quickly turned into a test of toughness for both men. McIntyre was hurt early, Zayn pushed his limits, and the referee nearly stopped the match. Still, neither man wanted it to end. In the end, one final Claymore kick decided everything, keeping the championship with the Scottish star.

The WWE Championship match began with high energy as Sami Zayn tried to control the pace against Drew McIntyre. Zayn forced McIntyre outside the ring and hit a fast plancha. However, the move hurt Zayn as well, and both men were slow to get up. Soon after, McIntyre landed badly and injured his back. He struggled to stand, and the referee checked on him. At one point, the referee even called for the match to stop, but McIntyre refused. Sami Zayn also made it clear he wanted to continue, saying he would not quit.Drew McIntyre pushed through the pain to stop Zayn by targeting his back. He executed a powerful Blue Thunderbomb but his back injury prevented him from executing the pin attempt properly. The match maintained its intensity because both wrestlers continued to fight despite their evident injuries.

As the match went on, things became more intense. Drew McIntyre hit the Future Shock DDT once, then again, and then a third time. He followed it up with heavy chops and a White Noise from the top rope.McIntyre argued with the referee moments later, and that mistake opened the door for Sami Zayn. Out of nowhere, Zayn landed a Helluva Kick, leaving fans shocked and asking, “What just happened?”McIntyre tried to answer back with a Claymore, but Zayn grabbed the ropes to stay alive. The fight spilled outside again, where McIntyre hit a brutal powerbomb through the table. Referees rushed in and tried to stop the match due to Zayn’s condition.Still, Drew McIntyre dragged Sami Zayn back into the ring and kept attacking. Zayn attempted another Exploder and looked for one more Helluva Kick, but McIntyre reacted fast. He delivered a clean second Claymore in the center of the ring and finally ended the match. Drew McIntyre won and retained the WWE Undisputed Championship.
