CM to present budget on Feb 20, session to begin on Feb 17 | Bhubaneswar News
Bhubaneswar: CM Mohan Charan Majhi is scheduled to present the state budget for the 2026-27 financial year in the state assembly on Feb 20. Sources said the budget outlay may cross Rs 3.2 lakh crore this time.For 2025-26, Majhi presented a budget of Rs 2.90 lakh crore in Feb last year and followed it up with a supplementary allocation of Rs 17,440 crore in Nov 2025, taking the effective outlay to over Rs 3.07 lakh crore.With the govt prioritising flagship schemes such as the Subhadra cash incentive for women and the Rs 800 per quintal bonus for paddy, besides major infrastructure projects under its ‘Viksit Odisha’ by 2036 vision, programme expenditure is expected to rise to nearly Rs 2 lakh crore this time, up from Rs 1.83 lakh crore in the current budget.As per the provisional calendar of the budget session, the sixth session of the 17th assembly will begin with governor Hari Babu Kambhampati’s address on Feb 17.Following a two-day discussion on the motion of thanks to the governor’s address on Feb 18 and 19, Majhi, who also holds the finance portfolio, will present the annual budget. The appropriation bill is slated to be passed on the last day of the financial year, March 31.The governor’s address is expected to highlight Odisha’s achievements across key sectors, along with the state’s industrial growth and strong investment momentum, as the govt pushes its long-term development road map.The session will be held in two phases and continue till April 8, subject to the House’s business, with a mid-term break from March 1 to 8. It is scheduled to have 28 business days.
