Bruce Lee’s 3-season action series ‘Warrior’ to leave a major platform soon; to return to HBO again |
Bruce Lee’s legacy still shapes the martial arts genre in powerful ways. And one of the most loved shows connected to his vision is now preparing for a major streaming shift. ‘Warrior’, the action-packed period drama inspired by Lee’s original concept, will soon leave platform, changing where fans can watch the series going forward.
A Bruce Lee idea that came to life years later
Bruce Lee first imagined ‘Warrior’ back in the early 1970s. But the project didn’t move forward at the time. Decades later, it finally found its moment. His daughter, Shannon Lee, helped bring the series into development alongside Banshee creator Jonathan Tropper. The show eventually launched on Cinemax before later moving to HBO Max for its third and final season.
What the show is about and why fans connected
Led by Andrew Koji, Warrior throws viewers into the dangerous streets of 1870s San Francisco. The story follows martial arts prodigy Ah Sahm as he enters the city’s brutal criminal underworld during the Tong Wars. He faces rising gang tensions while trying to locate his sister. The series blends intense action with emotional stakes, which helped it build a loyal fanbase over time. The cast also includes Olivia Cheng, Jason Tobin, and Dianne Doan, adding depth to the show’s gritty world.
Exit date and new streaming home
After finding new life on Netflix in 2023, ‘Warrior’ is now set to exit the platform. Beginning on February 16, the series will no longer be available there. That means HBO Max will become the show’s only streaming home again, returning it to the platform where it previously aired its final season.
Strong reviews, big streaming buzz, but no season 4
Critics responded well to ‘Warrior’ across its run. The show started strong and only grew more acclaimed with later seasons. The series quickly climbed into the platform’s Top 10 TV shows, and the buzz around a possible comeback grew louder. Fans started pushing for a season 4, hoping Netflix might revive it the way it did with shows like ‘Lucifer’ and more. Jason Tobin also added to those hopesHowever, things didn’t move in that direction. In late 2024, Joe Taslim shared a firm update on the future of the series. He confirmed that season 3 “is our last season” and said they weren’t being given “the chance to continue the story.”
