Alexander Skarsgard clarifies sexuality speculation after ‘Pillion’ comments, ‘I don’t know what I was talking about’ |
Actor Alexander Skarsgard has finally responded to speculation around his sexuality after his recent comments sparked online chatter. The ‘True Blood star’ is currently promoting his new film ‘Pillion’, in which he plays a biker who enters a BDSM relationship with a younger man, portrayed by Harry Melling. While discussing the film at a festival, Skarsgard’s choice of words led many to read between the lines.
What Alexander said while talking about ‘Pillion’
Skarsgard spoke about ‘Pillion’ during the Zurich Film Festival in October. While reflecting on the story and the world the film explores, he emphasised that his personal background was not the focus. He said, “I found that in this case,” and added, “it’s not really relevant what my background is. What I’ve done in the past, who I’ve been with—men, women… to me, what was important was that this felt like an opportunity to tell a story about a subculture I hadn’t seen portrayed this way—with so much authenticity.”His statement quickly made headlines, with many people speculating about what he was implying.
Skarsgård explains his words were misunderstood
In an interview with Variety, the 49-year-old clarified that his earlier remarks were not meant to hint at anything personal. He admitted the comment came out differently than intended. Skarsgard said, “That it resonated with my past?” and followed it up with, “It was definitely not an intended statement. I don’t know what I was talking about.”He also shared that he may have been trying to shift attention away from himself and back to the film. “Maybe it has to do with—there’s a lot of focus sometimes on me as an actor,” he explained. “Maybe it was trying to shift the focus more to the story and these characters, and the importance of telling the story like this.”
How fatherhood has changed his working style
Skarsgard also opened up about how becoming a parent has changed the way he approaches his career. He shares a child with Swedish actress Tuva Novotny and said his priorities have shifted. “I lived on the road,” he said. “I love that aspect of the industry—you’re a traveling circus. But now, I need to balance that with family life and making sure I can be present for my kid. I can’t be as selfish and narcissistic as I was before.”
