Congress & AISF allege police negligence, seek justice | Patna News
Patna: Protests erupted across the state on Monday over the death of a medical aspirant at a girls’ hostel in Patna, triggering outrage over alleged sexual violence and police “negligence”.A large number of Congress workers, led by AICC in charge for Bihar Krishna Allavaru and state Congress president Rajesh Ram, staged a demonstration near the Income Tax roundabout on Monday raising slogans against the state govt. Congress leaders alleged that the police were negligent at the outset in handling the case.Women activists demanded accountability and justice for the victim. The protestors burned an effigy of CM Nitish Kumar.Speaking to reporters during the protest, Allavaru criticised the govt for “mishandling” of the case. “Law and order has completely collapsed in the state. The govt is protecting criminals. Everyone knows that people in Bihar do not get justice due to the high-handedness of the police. Why was an FIR not registered in the first three days? People want justice for the girl and her family members. Why are the accused not arrested yet?” he said.Allavaru further alleged that forming an SIT would defeat the purpose of a fair probe, claiming such teams are often used to “suppress facts and protect influential people”.State Congress president Rajesh Ram echoed similar sentiments, stating, “The govt has no intention of solving the case. The govt and the police are protecting the accused. We will fight for justice for the girl and her family members.”In a separate but related protest, members of the Prem Youth Foundation Patna, along with local residents, participated in the ‘Aakrosh March’ near Ramgulam Chowk at Gandhi Maidan. The protestors claimed that authorities attempted to conceal facts and that a timely, thorough investigation could have prevented the current escalation and public anger.A protest march was also organised by the AISF members at Mahua Bazar in Vaishali, led by the district president Prakash Priyadarshi, who accused authorities of failing to protect students’ and guard their dignity in Bihar. He alleged a “dangerous nexus” between Patna police and criminals attempting to “suppress” a sexual assault case. He warned that AISF would intensify its agitation if justice was not delivered swiftly. Scores of students raised slogans and called for justice for the victim.
