JioHotstar introduces new monthly plans starting at Rs 79: Benefits, device supported and all other details
JioHotstar has introduced new subscription plans that won’t affect existing subscribers. The upcoming plans which will start at Rs 79 for new users are set to go live on January 28. With this move, the company is adding monthly payments across tiers, in addition to the existing quarterly and yearly plans. The move is aimed at making the service more accessible for lone viewers who prefer to watch on mobile and families that stream shows on connected TVs at home. According to JioHotstar, large-screen viewing on connected TVs has grown significantly in the 11 months since launch, prompting the company to adjust its pricing structure. The new plans are designed to reflect changing content preferences and demand for customised viewing experiences on different devices.Under this pricing new subscribers will be able to access Hollywood content by paying extra. However, these content will be avialable for free for Super and Premium tiers as well as existing subscribers. Meanwhile, users who subscribe to the less expensive mobile plan, will be able to consume Hollywood titles by buying an add-on separately. Its important to note that these changes will apply only to new subscribers joining from January 28 onwards. For example, new users who buy a Rs 79 monthly mobile plan will be able to access Hollywood content by paying Rs 49 extra.

Commenting on the announcement of the new plans, Sushant Sreeram, Head of SVOD Business & Chief Marketing Officer at JioStar, said, “This update brings greater flexibility and choice across subscription needs, while supporting long-term investments in premium storytelling, the best of live sports, and a high-quality streaming experience at scale for our audiences.”This change comes as JioHotstar has reached 1 billion downloads on Google Play and currently has 450 million monthly active users across all pin codes in India. The platform offers more than 300,000 hours of content in various languages and genres, and the new pricing structure is intended to support viewing on living-room TVs and mobile devices, as well as continued spending on content and technology.Since launching less than a year ago, JioHotstar has built a content library that includes sports, programming from over 100 network channels, unscripted and reality shows, creator content through Sparks, live cultural events, original series, films, kids and family content, anime, and international content, including Hollywood productions.
