Shubman Gill, Ravindra Jadeja to feature in Punjab vs Saurashtra Ranji Tie On Jan 22 | Cricket News
INDORE: India’s Test and ODI captain Shubman Gill and veteran allrounder Ravindra Jadeja will feature in the Punjab versus Saurashtra Ranji Trophy match in Rajkot from Jan 22.Gill scored 56, 56 and 23 in the three-match ODI series against New Zealand. The 37-year-old Jadeja went wicketless while conceding 141 runs in 23 overs in three matches, besides scoring 43 runs.
On Sunday, he conceded 41 in six overs. In the earlier two matches, he bowled nine and eight overs, respectively, but was unable to dismiss any Kiwi batter. In fact, in his last six ODIs for India, Jadeja has only managed to take one wicket. In his now viral tweet, Sreevats Goswami, who shared the dressing room with Jadeja in the 2008 U19 World Cup that India won under Virat Kohli’s leadership, stated that he has a feeling that the ongoing third ODI against New Zealand could well be Jadeja’s last 50-over match for India.“Ravindra jadeja has been a stalwart for India over the years & has been a match winner, but just get a feeling this could well be his last ODI in India ? We should celebrate him before he silently exits cause India plays next odi only in June against England in England,” Goswami tweeted.Apart from his bowling, Jadeja has failed to make any significant contribution with the bat as well in recent matches. He made scores of 4 off 5 balls (while coming into bat at No 5), 27 (off 44 balls) and 12 off 16 balls in the series defeat against New Zealand.Hailed as one of the greatest all-rounders of all time, Jadeja has been preferred over Axar Patel by India for the recently-held ODI series at home against New Zealand and South Africa, but has failed to live up to his usually high standards. While he featured in two Vijay Hazare Trophy matches for Saurashtra this season, Jadeja has played just one Ranji Trophy match this time, in which he went wicketless while conceding 78 runs in 28 overs, besides scoring 36 runs. Saurashtra lost the Vijay Hazare Trophy final to Vidarbha by 38 runs at the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru on Sunday.
