‘Golmaal 5’ kicks off: Rohit Shetty sets up café, police station in Film City – Reports | Hindi Movie News
‘Golmaal 5’, the fifth chapter in Indian cinema’s biggest comedy franchises, gears up for pre-production shortly. An announcement last week confirmed a lengthy shooting stint starting late February 2026. Now, the latest buzz reveals fresh details on the filming plans.
Mumbai shoot shift
According to Bollywood Hungama, Rohit Shetty usually likes to shoot a chunk of his films in Ramoji Film City, Hyderabad, or Goa. But with Golmaal 5, he’ll make an exception and shoot in Film City, Mumbai. Multiple sets of the café, police station, palatial residence etc. are being put up. All these sets would be ready by the beginning of next month. With the shoot largely centred in Film City, Mumbai, it’ll be convenient for the actors to stay at home and report to the set whenever required.
Star cast
‘Golmaal 5’ features Ajay Devgn, Arshad Warsi, Tusshar Kapoor, Shreyas Talpade, and Kunal Kemmu in lead roles. Reports indicate Sharman Joshi, part of the original Golmaal (2006), is set for a return. Buzz also suggests the villain this time will be a woman.
Franchise rights history
The original ‘Golmaal’ was backed by Shree Ashtavinayak Cine Vision, with rights first owned by Dhilin Raj (Harshad) Mehta. As per the report, these rights were later transferred to Tejpal (Rajubhai) Shah of the T A Shah Group, who subsequently assigned them to Rohit Shetty for a big fee per sequel.

The Golmaal franchise, kickstarted by Rohit Shetty from its second installment, spans four comedy blockbusters from 2006 to 2017. ‘Golmaal: Fun Unlimited’ (2006) netted around ₹29.5 Cr in India, while ‘Golmaal Returns’ (2008) doubled up to ₹51 Cr. ‘Golmaal 3’ (2010) exploded to ₹107 Cr domestically, and ‘Golmaal Again’ (2017) dominated with a massive ₹206 Cr India net.
