Patna high court gets two new judges | Patna News
Patna: Justices Ritesh Kumar and Praveen Kumar were sworn in as judges of Patna high court on Thursday morning at the court’s centenary hall. Chief justice Sangam Kumar Sahoo administered the oath of office at 10.30am in the presence of all sitting judges of the high court and members of the Bar.Justice Ritesh Kumar is a graduate in sociology from Patna College under Patna University and obtained his LLB degree from Magadh University, Bodh Gaya. He began his legal practice in the trial courts of Patna after enrolling as an advocate on Aug 31, 1998. Two years later, he shifted his practice to Patna high court, specialising in constitutional, service and education laws.He represented several govt universities of Bihar, including Tilka Manjhi Bhagalpur University, Munger University, Veer Kunwar Singh University, J P University, Chapra, and B N Mandal University, Madhepura, before the high court. He also served as counsel for Bihar State Power Holding Company, Coal India Ltd and several multinational companies. Justice Ritesh Kumar was standing counsel for the Bihar state govt from Nov 2014 to July 2016.Born in Bhagalpur district, Justice Praveen Kumar inherited the legal profession from his father, Krishna Mohan, a senior advocate of Patna high court. A law graduate from Tilka Manjhi Bhagalpur University, he enrolled as an advocate in 2002 and began his legal career at the Tis Hazari courts and Delhi high court.During his early practice, Justice Praveen developed a keen interest in major criminal cases and gained expertise in cross-examination and the use of scientific evidence such as DNA tests. In 2006, he returned to Patna high court and continued his criminal law practice under the mentorship of his father.
