On Wednesday, January 7, Mumbai witnessed the launch of the Indian National Cine Academy (INCA), a national body designed to combine every corner of India’s diverse film sectors into one connected hub. Director Rohit Shetty, one of the key voices at the event, humorously poked fun at his own track record with awards.

Speaking at the event, Rohit Shetty said, “Mera aur awards ka dur dur ka rishta nahi hai. I’ve done 17 films and haven’t got any award, I’m only called for hosting the award shows”. (I have no connection whatsoever with awards.)The filmmaker further addressed the harsh reality of movie theatre attendance figures and said, The sad part about the footfall of any film, no matter how big a hit it might be, is that the footfall is never more than 4 crore. And the reason behind it is the language barrier. Also, we shouldn’t be proud of being called Bollywood, Tollywood or Kollywood, it should be recognised as Hindi cinema, Indian cinema or Telugu cinema”.

The launch took place with top filmmakers, producers, artists, and cultural figures from nationwide in attendance, such as Rohit Shetty, Anand L Rai, Prosenjit Chatterjee, Dil Raju, Manoj Tiwari, Navraj Hans, Manmohan Shetty, Khushbu Sundar, Lakshmi Manchu, Ankur Garg, Vishnu Vardhan Induri, Shibasish Sarkar, plus many other prominent names from diverse fields.

Meanwhile, Rohit Shetty’s latest directorial was the 2024 film ‘Singham Again’, starring Ajay Devgn in a lead role. It also featured Kareena Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Akshay Kumar, Tiger Shroff, Arjun Kapoor, and Ranveer Singh. The film was produced by Jio Studios, Reliance Entertainment, Cinergy, Devgn Films, Rohit Shetty Picturez.
