On New Year’s day, 4 rescued from drowning

Panaji: With Goa’s beaches witnessing large footfalls for the New Year festivities, lifesavers were called in to rescue at least four persons across the state’s coastline on Jan 1. Drishti Marine said that a stingray stung a 53-year-old man from England while he was swimming a little way off Mobor beach. The man sustained an injury, and lifeguards provided immediate first aid, after which the tourist was handed over to emergency medical services.At Arambol, a 19-year-old girl from Maharashtra was rescued after she struggled to swim in the sweet-water lake.Lifeguards also jumped in to rescue two men in their mid-20s from Karnataka who were floundering in the water while swimming. They were rescued using a jet ski by lifesaver Umesh Madaikar. At the same beach, a 20-year-old male tourist from Bihar was rescued after he was unable to swim back ashore.Drishti Marine said that a 10-year-old boy from Pune sustained a deep cut on his right leg while swimming after stepping on a piece of broken glass. Immediate first aid was administered at the lifesaver tower located on the beach.
