Jorhat police light the way with reflector strips to curb mishaps | Guwahati News
Dibrugarh: In a bid to prevent accidents during foggy weather conditions, Jorhat traffic police have launched a drive to install reflector strips at multiple locations across the city.The initiative comes at a time when the region is experiencing dense fog and coincides with the ongoing picnic season. The drive involves pasting reflector strips on road dividers, light posts and other roadside structures to enhance visibility for motorists during low-visibility conditions.Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Subhrajyoti Borah said the measure was necessitated by the severe foggy conditions that have been affecting visibility on roads, particularly during early morning and evening hours, when vehicular movement is high.The reflector tape installation drive is part of a broader road safety campaign being undertaken by Jorhat police during the winter season. “Drink driving checks and road safety drives are being conducted regularly. We have also issued picnic advisory to ensure safety,” Borah added.The timing of the initiative is particularly significant as the picnic season is at its peak.Increased vehicular movement during this period, combined with reduced visibility due to dense fog, creates heightened risk of accidents. The reflector tapes serve as crucial markers that help drivers identify obstacles in times to slow down or manoeuvre safely.The police have also issued advisories for picnickers, urging them to exercise caution while travelling in foggy conditions, avoid speeding, use fog lights appropriately, and maintain safe distances from other vehicles.
