Karan Johar showers praise on Ranveer Singh’s ‘Dhurandhar’ in front of Anupama Chopra, who had slammed the film; filmmaker says he was ‘blown away’ |
‘Dhurandhar’ has been the talk of the town since its release in theaters on December 5, 2025. The movie has been raking in big numbers at the box office. And now, Karan Johar shared how he was blown away after watching the film in theaters. Interestingly, the filmmaker made the statement in front of Anupama Chopra, who had slammed the movie, calling it a tough watch and an exhausting espionage thriller. Here’s what happened.
Karan Johar lauds ‘Dhurandhar’ in front of Anupama Chopra
Karan Johar recently attended a book launch event of Anupama Chopra. At the event he praised Aditya Dhar for the film. Now, a video of the filmmaker has been doing rounds on the internet. In the clip, he can be heard saying, “I was like, blown away by ‘Dhurandhar’. It makes you feel like, ‘Oh, my craft is limited compared to this.’ Oh my god, look at the use of background music.”The director acknowledged the fact that people can have different opinions about the movie, but he was sharing his views. He said, “Whatever anyone else feels, it is entirely their opinion, and I respect everyone’s opinions. What I loved about ‘Dhurandhar’ was that I didn’t feel that the director was self-aware! I felt like he wasn’t trying to show off his craft, and yet he was seamlessly like telling you the story.”The filmmaker didn’t stop there, as he further added, “I never felt he went wide or he went like, ‘I am going to show you a great frame.’ I just felt it was beautifully shot without self-awareness. It made me question my ability as a filmmaker, and that’s always a good thing for me. I look at that with a positive lens. So I began the year loving ‘Saiyaara’ and ended the year loving ‘Dhurandhar’. I loved ‘Lokah’.”
Netizens react to the viral clip
The video was shared on Reddit, and soon, users of the platform dropped several comments over the viral clip. A person wrote, “It is the highest grossing Bollywood film in India ever. EVERYBODY, who is somebody in the industry would appreciate it now.” Another one added, “Why all of this praise is always happening around Anupama.” A comment read, “He’ll stop attending any such events now lol.”

Meanwhile, earlier, ‘Saiyaara’ director Mohit Suri had praised the Aditya Dhar directorial in front of Anupama when he had attended the roundtable of the directors. The senior journalist and film critic’s review received backlash and later, she took down the video.
