Jharkhand Congress to Protest MGNREGA Replacement with VB-G RAM G Act from Jan 5

Ranchi: The Jharkhand state Congress unit, which celebrated its 140th foundation day on Sunday, is set to launch a state-wide protest against the recent replacement of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), 2025, by the Centre with the Viksit Bharat Guarantee for Rozgaar and Ajivika Mission (Gramin) (VB-G RAM G) Act, starting from January 5.State Congress in-charge K Raju revealed the party’s protest plan on Sunday while attending the 140th foundation day of the party.Speaking on the occasion, Raju said, “The MGNREGA was replaced without the consent and consultation of the states. With the abolishment of the MGNREGA, which was in effect for the past 20 years, the respect, rights, self-confidence, and income security of the MGNREGA workers have been snatched away. The villagers also lost their right to choose village development schemes following the replacement.”“The state Congress will launch a protest from January 5 against the changes until the upcoming elections. Also, a massive rally will be organised in Jharkhand against the changes made to the Act,” he added. Congress will reach out to MGNREGA workers in every village and inform them about this govt decision and their rights under the previous scheme.Meanwhile, the Jharkhand state Congress unit celebrated its 140th foundation day on Sunday, with a slew of events at its state headquarters and other district offices.State Congress president Keshav Mahto Kamlesh hoisted the party’s flag at its state party headquarters on the occasion of the foundation day in the presence of state Congress in-charge K Raju and felicitated senior Congress leaders for their contributions in strengthening the Congress in Jharkhand. Moreover, the party flag was hoisted at 4,500 village panchayats and at the homes of every worker in the state. In line with the foundation day celebrations, party workers also celebrated the state cabinet’s recent approval of the draft of the Jharkhand Panchayat Extension to Scheduled Areas (Rules), 2025, with drums, traditional dance, and songs.All office bearers of the party hoisted the party flag at their respective places across the state. Over 100,000 party flags were hoisted across the state on Sunday, Deepika Pandey Singh, the minister of the department of rural development, said. She, along with other leaders of Congress, also celebrated with other party workers at the grand old party’s office in Ranchi.
