As episodes 5, 6, and 7 hit online platforms, creators Matt Duffer and Ross Duffer sat down for a talk with People to share some details about the next ‘Stranger Things 5’ episodes, as well as the grand finale. He revealed that the recent episodes put Eleven and Hopper’s relationship to the test.The story continues after Eleven finds out that Hopper had a suicidal ‘failsafe’ when they break into the government facility in the Upside Down. Although he does not have to use it, Eleven feels that her trust has been betrayed as Hopper never told her about the extra measure he was going to be taking. While talking about Brown and Harbour’s onscreen characters, Duffer shared that, “It’s just a dynamic that we really wanted to explore, which is this dynamic of a parent and their child, who’s actually no longer really a child anymore, is actually a young adult, becoming an adult – and how do you deal with that?”He also cites that Hopper is more worried about El than most parents, taking into account his past experiences with his ex-wife and his deceased daughter. Ross Duffer reveals that grief is a big part of their journey, adding that “he had to confront it again as he was going to save Will in season 1, and then he had to confront it again over the various seasons as he sort of adopted Eleven as his own daughter.”

The episode ends with the gang getting together and heading into the Upside Down to defeat Vecna. Eleven is seen to be keeping secrets of her own with Eight, as the two decide that they cannot go with the others. She also says that when the Upside Down goes, “so will they”, leaving the ending open to interpretation until the finale hits on new Years.
