The relationship between Prathyusha and her boyfriend Siddharth Reddy became the focal point of her death. The Sessions Court later sentenced Siddharth to five years in prison on charges of abetment to suicide and attempted suicide. The High Court later reduced it to two years in 2011, and the fine was increased to Rs 50,000. Dissatisfied with this verdict, Prathyusha’s mother approached the Supreme Court in 2012, arguing that it was not suicide but premeditated murder.
