The surge in re-releases is captivating audiences across India’s cinema landscape. Harshvardhan Rane’s romantic drama ‘Sanam Teri Kasam’ previously reigned supreme as the top-grossing re-release. However, SS Rajamouli’s revamped masterwork ‘Baahubali – The Epic’ has now matched that impressive total with Rs 33.18 crore, primarily fueled by robust ticket sales in the Telugu-speaking regions.

The Indian box office has mostly been dominated by new releases, but over the past few years, the trend of re-releasing films caught on in a big way, giving many films a new lease of life. Harshvardhan Rane’s ‘Sanam Teri Kasam’ is one of the prime examples. The film initially managed to touch Rs 9 crore mark but upon re-release, it went on to collect Rs 33.18 crore, becoming the highest grossing re-release film in India. On its 10th anniversary, producer Shobu Yarlagadda and director SS Rajamouli decided to bring ‘Baahubali‘ starring Prabhas, Rana Daggubati, Anushka Shetty, Tamannaah Bhatia, Sathyaraj and Nassar, back to the theaters in a new avatar as ‘Baahubali- The Epic’. A re-cut version of both the films put together. When the new version was announced, it was met with a lot of fanfare. The film opened well and also did great business in the initial weekend but post that the movie has been on a downward spiral.
