Silchar: Police in Sribhumi on Thursday seized more than three quintals of ganja from a pick-up van. The estimated value of the drugs is pegged at Rs 50 lakh. The contraband was seized on NH 8 near the Sonakhira area. The driver was asked to stop, but tried to speed away. After being chased by cops, he abandoned the truck and fled.Upon searching the Tripura-registered vehicle, officers discovered the illicit consignment hidden cleverly. The ganja, packed in bags, was found concealed beneath a number of empty wooden boxes.A senior police official confirmed the substantial nature of the bust, stating the seized quantity exceeds three quintals and its market value is approximately Rs 50,00,000.Police have seized both the drugs and the pick-up van and have launched a comprehensive investigation to identify and nab the absconding driver.
