The 2021 animated film ‘The Mitchells vs. the Machines’ became a major hit at the time of release. The fun comedy about a dysfunctional family saving the world from robots and AI taking over created a lot of buzz, and over the years, many fans have wondered about whether there will be a sequel or not. As per recent reports, ‘The Mitchells vs. the Machines 2’ is officially in the works!

‘The Mitchells vs. the Machines 2’ is on the way

One of the biggest animation production studios in the world has officially picked up ‘The Mitchells vs. the Machines 2’ as per Variety reports. Guillermo Martinez, who was the head of story for the first film will yet again join in on the sequel. He will also be taking over the direction of the project as well, making it his debut as a director. JP Sans from ‘The Bad Guys 2’ has joined the project to direct it, leaving a lot up for anticipation about what the new film will follow. Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin will be taking over writing the screenplay. Not much information has been revealed about the film; however, the official production is said to begin sometime around early 2026.

About ‘The Mitchells vs. the Machines’

The animated film is focused on the eldest daughter, Katie, from a dysfunctional family. She is all set and ready to move away from home and start her college life at a film school in California. With everything packed and ready to go, her father, who has been trying to reestablish a lost bond between the two, cancels her plane tickets and plans a cross-country family road trip.The Mitchells all packed together in one small car embark on what seems to be a normal trip at first, however, as things slowly start to fall apart and the robots and machines start to take over the world, it is up to them to save everyone from a complete takeover.
